Founded in 1997, Faurecia has grown to become a major player in the global automotive industry. A leader in its three areas of business, the Group is backed by a R&D and production network with sites in 35 countries. It is the preferred partner of the world's largest automakers, which value its operational excellence and technological expertise. It went on to gain a solid foothold in the market for exhaust systems in the United States by acquiring US company AP Automotive Systems. Faurecia is the world’s number one supplier of seat frames and mechanisms, emissions control technologies and vehicle interiors. The Group is also the world’s third-largest supplier of complete seat systems. Faurecia has strengthened its position in each of these areas through a series of acquisitions. In 2010, it became world leader in emissions control technologies by acquiring exhaust specialist Emcon Technologies. In Europe, it expanded its range of automotive exterior and bodywork solutions by absorbing Plastal’s business interests in Spain and Germany in 2010, followed by the company’s operations in France in The same year, in the United States, it acquired the Ford plant in Saline, Michigan, bolstering the position of Faurecia Interior Systems as market leader in North America and making Ford the Group’s number two customer. Faurecia will continue to invest in new technologies that strengthen its capabilities in innovation. The Group has been operating in China for over 15 years, where it helps leading international customers to expand in a market that offers huge potential. Faurecia has also begun forging strategic alliances with Chinese automakers such as Geely (which now owns Volvo), the Xuyang Group and, more recently, Chang’An. It now draws on a network of 44 production sites & 4 R&D centers in the country and is set to maintain its growth. The Group also has state-of-the-art TechCenters in Minbei and Shanghai, home to its full range of R&D expertise, covering everything from initial CAD to prototype testing. The Group already has three Emissions Control Technologies sites in the country. In Thailand, Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies is already well established and the Group continues to grow, as reflected by the recent introduction of Faurecia Interior Systems. In India, Faurecia continues to expand its industrial base for three Business Groups: Emissions Control Technologies, Interior Systems and Automotive Seating. This campaign is now backed by the Pune TechCenter, which provides the full range of R&D expertise needed to develop local and international programs. Faurecia’s rapid expansion continues apace in North America. As of late 2012, the Group had opened 15 new sites in the United States, Mexico and Canada in scarcely two years, nearly doubling its workforce in the region. Faurecia’s Business Groups are all present in South America, where it has built an enormous production plant, a cutting-edge R&D center and headquarters for its Emissions Control Technologies Business Group in Limeira, Brazil. Seeking to meet the specific needs of its activities, Faurecia regularly makes targeted acquisitions of specialist companies that contribute significant added value. In 2010, it took over Hoerbiger (pneumatic and seat-comfort solutions) and Angell-Demmell (metal automotive interior trim). In 2012, the Group took over Sora Composites, specialized in high-tech composite materials. Finally, in 2017, the Group acquired a stake in Parrot Automotive, which develops connectivity solutions and infotainment for the automobile. This strategic partnership will give Faurecia a unique opportunity to accelerate development of its product offer for the Cockpit of the Future.
